Working injuries are quite common due to most jobs being quite repetitive, especially the more manual based work. This can result in strains and other injuries which can effect work. Even office based work can result in postural related pain. I offer rehabilitation for working injuries combined with exercises to prevent repeat injuries. I also offer postural therapy specifically designed for each client to re-align your natural posture.
Exercise Therapy or Physical Therapy as its more commonly know helps individuals to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functionality throughout life. This includes rehabilitation where movement and functionality are threatened by ageing, injury or disease. As a physical therapist I can identify the problem and help to improve your quality of life by treating, rehabilitating and prevention of further related injuries. Using knowledge and skills unique to physical therapists I can create a rehabilitation programme tailored to your specific needs to rehabilitate any injuries and help to prevent them from reccuring in the future. This is especially important for work related injuries as work can often mean repetition which leaves joints more prone to injury.
Electrotherapy is the use of electrical energy as a medical treatment. The use of electrotherapy has been researched and accepted in the field of rehabilitation for helping with a number of injuries. It can help with pain management and improving range of joint movement. It can be used to help neuromuscular dysfunction by helping to improve strength and motor control, retarding muscle atrophy and improving local blood flow. It improves the range of joint mobility by inducing repeated stretching of contracted and shortened soft tissues and it enhances microcirculation and protein synthesis which aids tissue repair and restores integrity of connective and dermal tissues.
Working related injuries are something most people will suffer from at some point wether its in the form of postural pain from being sat at a desk all day of from a repetitive injury from something more manual. In either case most of us can’t afford to take the time off work to let it heal. I am able to identify the problem areas and through treatment and specifically designed exercise programme I can help to ease the pain and help insure the injury does not become a lasting problem. This way you can continue to work while still enjoying a full range of movement.
Within the physical therapy profession, manual therapy is defined as a clinical approach using specific hands-on techniques, including things such as manipulation and mobilisation, used by the physical therapist to diagnose and treat soft tissues and joint structures for the purpose of treating painful areas and increasing range of motion, reducing or eliminating soft tissue inflammation by inducing relaxation and improving contractile and non-contractile tissue repair. This aids stability and helps with facilitating movement and improving function.
Positive Alignment Therapy (postural therapy) is a process which is based on a specifically designed daily exercise routine which involves gentle, low demand positional and stretching exercises. These are tailored to meet each clients needs. The exercises will target the problem areas and strengthen muscles allowing the body to come back into its natural alignment. The Therapy achieves remarkable results and is an effective way of treating posture related pain without the need for drugs, surgery or manipulation.
Sports specific exercise is designed to prevent and rehabilitate specific sporting injuries, for example with sports like golf and tennis your back and shoulders are more prone to injury where as with with football and rugby your knee’s and ankle’s are the most likely areas to sustain injury. Every sport is different and so is every sports man, so I offer a comprehensive assessment which i use to create a tailored exercise programme designed to aid in the rehabilitation and prevention of sporting related injuries.
I offer sports massage therapy for a lot of sporting related strains and rehabilitation programmes. Sports massage applies massage and stretch techniques to the muscle and connecting tissues to help increase the range of movement, increases flexibility and relieve muscle pain to enhance athletic performance and help in rehabilitation of muscles which are the primary force in sporting activities and the main cause of sports related injuries.
The Kinesio Taping Method is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while allowing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. It is used to successfully treat a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and medical conditions. Both Kinesio® Tex Tape and the training protocol have shown results that would have been unheard of using older methods and materials.
Gait Analysis helps to identify the underlying mechanical causes of common foot and lower limb problems. These can include heel and arch pain, ankle pain, knee pain, hip pain, leg cramps and lower back pain. Analysing the structure and alignment of your gait allows us to assess the strengths and weaknesses and create custom orthotics to help correct any problems.
